I thought that you might like to see a photo of two of our shelter adoptees and our son relaxing! The small black dog was called "Blackie" we named him Ollie and we adopted him last November.
He was the mascot dog for the opening of the thrift shop at the swap meet. We had recently lost our beloved 10 year old lab and were still missing him SO not in the mind frame to adopt a pet. However Ollie bonded with My husband and I at the swap meet even though we tried to keep our distance. Later that day with thoughts of that little black dog nagging at me I picked up our 2 kids from school and Raymond ( in the picture) started saying "I know we all miss Rufie but surely we have room on another dog especially since Ms. Elkie brought the neatest little black dog to our school assembly today." I called Elkie and said "we want that little dog". He is the cutesiest thing with the most personality and moved right in. Then in July(2008) one week before we went out of town for a week Elkie phoned and asked us if we were still missing a "big dog" in our lives. I said yes, so we left the town thrift shop where we were helping to set up- went right down to the shelter to meet Lucas- the golden retriever in the photo. The whole way over to the shelter my husband was saying " now you know this isn't the greatest timing- right?" Well Lucas moved in, settled in, adapted to the pet sitter we had hired and has become more entrenched in our lives since July. The little tan dog was "re -homed" from a neighbour- she was used to being part of a pack and is much happier since we adopted her two buddies. The dogs are kept company by 3 indoor cats ( one a shelter pet, the other two were side of the road foundlings) and our bird. As you can see there is a reason my furniture is shabby- AND dark colored!
