Our adopted dog sucess story

We adopted a beautiful brown border collie, Sunday, from PetSmart a few weeks before our wedding and just a few weeks after moving into our first new home.

Since our engagement six months earlier, my husband had been pestering me to get a dog until  I had snapped and said,  "No dogs until six months after the wedding."  He submitted to Bridezilla and gave up the subject.

We were at PetSmart  getting cat food.  We were in line paying when I remembered something we needed and stumbled on Sunday in the back.  I fell in love and had 20 minutes till the store closed to decide to adopt her and grab all the puppy supplies we needed.  We brought her home and she almost immediately wet our brand new carpet several times.  I hate to say we almost took her back with all the stress.  Luckily the wedding went through and the messes cleaned up easily.  Now Sunday is the center of our lives.

She had been given up due to all her energy.  Which we saw right away.  But we walked her regularly and gave her lots of toys.  We took her to training and gave her some time to grow up.  Now she is an AKC canine good citizen certified dog and is in training to be a therapy dog in nursing homes and a R.E.A.D dog to help kids in elementary school.  Working tires her out.  Training has taught her positive ways to get attention and all the love we have has made her secure enough to be herself.  She brings a lot of joy to the school she works at, loves kids and receives compliments every where she goes.  Adopting this happy puppy was the best wedding gift my husband and I gave each other and started our life together with a big furry ball of pure love.

Update from Ronnie, adopted 11-29-08

Hello to all my friends at HSOY,
Ronnie here, along with a play-date of mine, Scooter. Here's a picture of us playing at my home one afternoon. When Scooter and I are not playing, we like to look out the window to see who is passing by. Of course I also have my "sister" Charlotte to play with all the time. Charlotte loves me very much and always brings my toys to me

I love napping on the sofa with my dad.

It has been almost 6 months now since I adopted my new family, and wow do I feel loved. My new "mom" and "dad" are retired so they spend lots of time with me and take me with them places too as long as I can be walked on my leash. So I have got to visit lots of cool places.

My parents like to go places in our "rolling home", a very large motorhome. We left Arizona in April headed for Charlotte, North Carolina. On our way, we stopped in Tucson, Arizona and visited Saguaro National Park then to White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. I was amazed to see the big white sand dunes, and the watching children ride plastic sleds down the tall dunes. Next we went to the Space Center at Houston, Texas and the beach at Galveston, Texas where I walked with my dad.

I was surprised as I watched my geographical environment change from cactus and rock to lots of tall trees and grass. We arrived in Charlotte, North Carolina almost 3 weeks ago now. All the green grass in our yard here was confusing to me, and I preferred at first to walk on the pavement when I took my several walks a day. Now I am more adjusted to the grass and found out that it is relaxing to lie down upon. Mom and dad are taking me to Ohio on June 1 to meet the rest of my new family until early July (mom and dad must have a lot of family for me to meet). I am going to have a real treat when we visit Nova Scotia, Canada. I'll get to see some of our neighbors from Quartzsite, AZ, there. After we visit Canada, we head for Tennessee for a month before we start our journey back to Quartzsite, AZ, for the winter. By the time I get back west, I will be a well-traveled guy.

As you can see, I have a very fun and loving life now, and hope that all my friends from HSOY find good homes too. Me and my family think of you all often. Take care and maybe I can come by and say hello when we visit Yuma this coming winter.
